| Gareth O'Connell |
Gareth O’Connell is a member of our Conveyancing and Commercial Law Group and acts for a range of corporations, institutions and private clients. Gareth handles all aspects of commercial law, including shareholders agreements, share purchase agreements, franchise agreements, corporate governance and company secretarial matters. Gareth has experience in the areas of commercial lending and corporate finance, and acts for banks and other institutions. Gareth also advises in relation to insolvency and corporate restructuring, including liquidation (voluntary and compulsory), receivership, examinership and schemes of arrangement. Gareth also advises on all aspects of residential and commercial conveyancing. Gareth handles a range of litigation matters, in particular, litigation arising out of commercial, contract and property disputes and debt recovery. Gareth acts on behalf of a number of local authorities with a particular focus on the following areas:- land purchase by agreement and compulsorily and land disposal; arbitrations and assessments in respect of the compulsory purchase of land; rights of way and wayleaves; drafting of bye-laws; Housing Act/Planning Act Part V affordable housing schemes; security for loans to voluntary housing bodies and housing loans to individuals. Gareth is originally from Cavan and subsequently lived in Monaghan. Prior to joining the firm in 2003, Gareth worked in the corporate department of a leading Scottish commercial law firm. Gareth has also worked in corporate pensions. Gareth qualified as a solicitor in Ireland in 2006 and has also been admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales. Gareth obtained his Bachelor of Civil Law degree from University College Dublin in 2000. He subsequently obtained, from UCD, a master’s degree in Commercial Law, which included areas of study such as corporate finance, credit and security, arbitration and intellectual property law. Gareth most recently completed a Diploma in Corporate Law and Governance including such areas of study as corporate compliance and secretarial management, corporate finance, commercial lending, insolvency and corporate recovery. Gareth was previously the Secretary of the Clare Law Association and he volunteers with the Free Legal Advice Clinic in Ennis.
