Public and Regulatory Law
As MHP we have, over the years, built up extensive knowledge and experience in assisting clients in relation to disciplinary procedures in the professions. With the introduction of the Health and Social Care Professionals Acts of 2005 and 2012 we have extended our service in this area to the social care professionals who interact with CORU – Ireland’s newly-formed multi-profession health regulator.
A complaint can be made by anyone in respect of a health and social care professional who is registered with CORU. Currently CORU deal with Social Workers, Radiographers and Radiation Therapists, Dieticians, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians. At MHP, we have advised parties who find themselves before the CORU committee of enquiry and provides assistance with drafting statements, communication with legal advisors for CORU and applications to the enquiry committee.
MHP can assist with all aspects of fitness to practice complaints. In particular, John Shaw has considerable experience and knowledge of the workings of the Complaints and Client Relations Committee of the Law Society of Ireland. John has sat on the committee and is therefore well placed to advise solicitors who face an appearance before the committee. Whatever profession is involved, we can assist with all sanction procedures and oral hearings.
